DearReader.Com
This e-mail service sends two or three chapters of a book, one section a day, to introduce busy people to books they might enjoy finishing. All books are used by permission of the publisher and can be purchased through the website or borrowed from the library.

Since 1992, the Electronic Text Center at the University of Virginia Library has pursued twin missions with equal seriousness of purpose:
   1. to build and maintain an internet-accessible collection of SGML and XML texts and images
   2. to build and maintain user communities adept at the creation and use of these materials.

10,000 texts are publicly accessible.

eServer.org
The EServer, founded in 1990 and now based at Iowa State University, attempts to provide an alternative niche for quality work. It offers 44 collections on diverse topics, with over 31,000 works available.

Fictionwise
Fictionwise is an independent eBook seller launched in June 2000 as a partnership between Steve Pendergrast and Mindwise Media, LLC, which is owned by Scott Pendergrast. The success of Fictionwise led to it being spun out of Mindwise into its own company, now called Fictionwise, Inc. Some of its ebooks are available free of charge.

A library of over 400 works with access made possible by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab.

National Academies Press
The National Academies Press (NAP) publishes reports issued by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council, all operating under a charter granted by the U.S. Congress. NAP publishes over 200 books a year on a range of topics in science, engineering, and health, offering authoritative views on important issues in science and health policy.

Online Books Page
The Online Books Page is a website that facilitates access to books that are freely readable over the Internet. It also aims to encourage the development of such online books, for the benefit and edification of all. The Online Books Page was founded, and is edited, by John Mark Ockerbloom, a digital library planner and researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. He is solely responsible for the content of the site. The site is hosted by the University of Pennsylvania Library, who provides the server, disk space, and network bandwidth for the site.
