Overdrive collection of downloadable eBooks and audio-books

The Overdrive collection offers eBooks in EPUB, PDF and Kindle formats and audio books in MP3 and WAM formats. The core collection is funded by the Montgomery District Library Center. Horsham Township Library supplements this collection by purchasing additional copies and titles. To view the widest selection, log in to your account using your Horsham Township Library card, then search the Overdrive library.

  EBSCOhost eBooks

The EBSCOhost collection of 1,500 eBooks, funded by the State Library of Pennsylvania, is part of the Pennsylvania On-Line World of Electronic Resources (P.O.W.E.R. Library) and may be read on-line. Horsham Township Library has purchased a supplementary license enabling township residents to download these titles to a portable reader (Nook, Sony eReader, Kindle, iPad, etc.)

Baker & Taylor Axis360

Axis360 is a new collection funded by the Friends of the Horsham Library. The collection is currently compatible with iPads and smartphones and tablets that use the android operating system. Compatibility with Barnes & Noble Nook and Kindle devices is under development and should be coming in 2012.

To use eBooks in this collection you will need to sign in using your Horsham Township Library card. Visit the site, click the button labled "Get the Reader" and install the free Blio eReader app on your mobile device. Then select the book you would like to check out. Download books you checked out using the Blio app.


Other sources of eBooks on the Internet

A number of Internet websites offer access to eBooks you can read online for free, or purchase for your eBook reader. For a list of links to these sites, click here.

Information and help for new users.

To access downloadable electronic books you will need:

  • A valid library card from the Horsham Township Library
  • A computer with access to the Internet (preferably a broadband connection; however dial-up connections will work, too)
  • Adobe® Digital Editions software may be needed for owners of Nook, Kobo, Sony and other eBook readers. This free software can be downloaded from the Overdrive website of from the Adobe website at www.Adobe.com.
  • Users of iPads and/or smart phones and tablets that use the android operating system should check with their app store for apps compatible with their devices. To use the Axis360 collection, install the free Blio eReader app. To get it, click the "Get the Reader" button on left-hand side of the Axis360 website.

Click here to link to OverDrive, then click the My Help icon to view an on-line guide to using downloadable eBooks and audiobooks from OverDrive. You can find basic technical information about how to use these digital books with your particular eReader, tablet, or audio player.

Kindle users, you can now borrow versions of our e-Books compatible with your Kindle reader. For helpful instructions on transferring items to your Kindle, click here to link to Amazon.com's "Public Library Books for Kindle" technical support page.


To access digital audio books you will need:

  • A valid library card from any MCLINC member library
  • A computer with access to the Internet (preferably a broadband connection; however dial-up connections will work, too)
  • Windows Media Player Series 9 or newer version (with Windows Media Security Update) if you use a PC running under the Windows operating system. Apple's iTunes software if you use an iPod music player or iPad tablet to listen to your audiobooks.
  • Free digital audio book software (Overdrive Media Console) for your computer available on the Overdrive website.

Try it with just four easy steps:

  • On your home, work, or school computer, download, install and register the Overdrive Media Console software and/or download the Adobe® Digital Editions software.
  • Select your audio books or eBooks to download. If the item(s) you want are currently checked out to other readers, you can place requests for them. You will receive an email when your turn comes to check the item(s) out.
  • Check out your audio or ebooks with your library card
  • Download to your portable device and enjoy digital books to go!

Special Notes:

  • Audio and eBooks can be enjoyed at home, work or when you travel but are not for use on computers in the library. All files must be downloaded to your personal computer.
  • Audio books can be transferred to portable devices such as compatible MP3 players, PDAs, and smart phones. Some (but not all) audio books can also be burned to CD. EBooks can be transferred to portable readers and computers that support EPUB and PDF formats. They are now compatible with Amazon Kindle and Apple iPad devices.
  • Digital books may be listed in the MCLINC online catalog, but cannot be reserved in the catalog. Reserves for audio books must be placed on the websites of the particular eBook collection.
