Computers for Free Public Use and Access to the Internet

Horsham Township Library offers twelve computers in its adult reference section, seven computers in its Teen Room, and eight computers in its Children's area. All these computers access the Internet. They are also equipped with Microsoft Office Pro software and Adobe Photoshop software. The Microsoft Office Pro suite includes:

  • Word: a word processng program with many advanced features.
  • Excel: a spreadsheet program that calculates and can be used in conjunction with Word to perform mail-merge operations.
  • Access: a database manager that can be used in conjuction with Word to perform mail-merge operations.
  • PowerPoint: presentation software that can be used to develop overhead projector slides and handouts for lectures.
  • Publisher: a desktop publishing program that can be used to produce newsletters, flyers and signs.
  • Patrons who wish to use public access computers should visit the library's main desk to set up a password for their library card account. The password is used as a "PIN" number along with the library user's library card account number to sign on to public access computers. As part of the sign-on process, patrons must also read and acknowledge the library's Internet Acceptable Use Policy before they may use any of the library's Internet computers. Library Internet computers are subject to a technology protection measure (software content filter) in accordance with Federal and state statutes. Adults (users 18 years or older) have the right to request un-filtered use of computers. Please ask at the Reference or Circulation desk if you wish to have unfiltered access.

Patrons may print items to a networked copier/printer located in the copy corral in the middle of the main reading room. Printing charges are 20¢ per page for black-and-white or color copies.

    Wireless Hot Spot

    Wi-Fi access

Wireless Internet Access (Wi-Fi) is available throughout the library. To log-on use the same library card barcode and password that you use to log in to your library card account.

Connect to the networks "dlinkHTL" or "HTLcom" (in the community meeting rooms) and open a web browser. Our Internet Acceptable Use policy will be displayed. At the bottom of the page you will be prompted to type in your barcode and password.

If you are a guest in the area and do not have a library card and password, visit the library's Reference Desk and ask to be logged on as a "guest".

If you are using a Macintosh computer, please be aware that older versions of the Safari Internet Browser work poorly with the library's wireless access manager. The following browsers (for either Windows or MAC operating systems) are compatible with the library's wireless service: Internet Explorer from Microsoft, Firefox from Mozilla.

    Policies and limitations

Wireless Internet service is subject to the library's Internet Acceptible Use Policy and its content filter. Certain time limits apply. If you are logged on but your device is idle for more than 60 minutes, you will be logged off.

The library does not supply any hardware or support service for patrons portable computers; however, library staff members will try to answer questions.

Horsham Township Library's wireless hot spot is listed with the JWire hotspot locating service. Click on the Jwire Hotspot Locator link to find other wireless hotspots.
